This is Xanadu's inaugural Reserve Chardonnay, with fruit coming entirely from Xanadu's oldest chardonnay vineyard, the Lagan Estate.
The bouquet of this elegant yet powerful chardonnay displays fresh pears, beeswax, citrus and white nectarine fruits with underlying hints of oatmeal, nougat and roasted almonds.
The palate is full bodied - packed with pears, white fleshed stone fruits and zesty lemony/grapefruit flavours. There is a lovely complexity with a creamy texture derived from lees stiring and mealy characters in the background; the taught mineral structure, intense fruit and bright acidity combine to focus the wine perfectly with a lovely lingering fruit finish.
A refined yet powerful chardonnay, displaying classic Margaret River hallmarks. The 2008 Reserve is a wine which while drinking well in its youth will certainly reward with careful cellaring.
Ripe fruits of the forest, boysenberries and cassis integrated with dark chocolate, cinnamon and spice.
Full-bodied yet refined, the plush palate offers ripe, jubey fruits such as blackcurrants, plums and mulberries framed by subtle cedar/spicy oak characters. This dense wine is well structured, layered with dark fleshy fruit characteristics, ripe tannins and a lingering finish.
Vibrant and robust in its youth, this is a wine which will certainly benefit from further bottle maturation, and will cellar comfortably for 5-10 years.
Situated only five minutes from the town centre of Margaret River and an equal distance from the magnificent south west coast, Xanadu is a true pioneer of the region with a long history of producing wines with distinct character.
In an idyllic setting in the very South West corner of Australia, the 85 hectares of vines on the original Xanadu Wine Estate flourish in the rich, free draining gravel soils of the Margaret River region. In this near-perfect environment for viticulture, this unique maritime climate enjoys an abundant supply of water and is sheltered by forests of magnificent marri trees. A state-of-the-art winery / restaurant and cellar door has been constructed, with the extensive use of local granite and gneissic rocks, excavated during the planting of the original vineyard. These low yielding, carefully handled vines produce a range of varieties.
