Nick Spencer
Eden Road Wines

Born in Geneva Switzerland as son of a diplomat, it's pretty bloody fitting that Nick Spencer is making wine in the Canberra District. There aren't too many better-proven young talents in the pool than this young winemaker, nailing the whole range of Eden Road wines from the inexpensive Long Road range (with which he's picked up some major silverware) to the more esteemed bottlings of Canberra Shiraz and Tumbarumba chardonnay. He's dabbled in places as far flung as Bordeaux and swum in the Black Sea - we're very happy he's making waves in the home talent pool.
Q&A

Is there a wine or a person that inspires you as a winemaker?
The "WWAG's"... Winemakers' Wives and Girlfriends. We get paid very little, work very hard and are only around for 50% of the year! Their only trade off is they drink better wine than most!

What is so-hot-right-now in wine?
Terrior - Site expression, really simple winemaking with an emphasis on site expression, Wine growing not winemaking!

What got you into wine?
Wine!

What's your desert island wine?
Depends who is with me. If it was me and Halliday, then probably a bottle of Pinot Gris. (That way I wouldn't need to share it.)

Why should you win the people's vote for the YGWA?
I love what I do.

(Complete this sentence) If there was no wine in the world...
We wouldn’t have a wine glut.

As a winemaker, where do you see yourself in 10 years time?

Hopefully planning for another ten years.

What's the one word that sums you up?
Passionate.
